HeadMouse Extreme

Origin Instuments

http://www.orin.com/access/headmouse/

The HeadMouse® sensor replaces the standard desktop computer mouse for people who cannot use their hands. The HeadMouse is a device that translates the movements of a user's head into directly proportional movements of the computer mouse pointer. The HeadMouse is a wireless optical sensor which tracks a tiny and disposable target that is placed on the user's forehead or glasses. When this capability is combined with an on-screen keyboard, such as SofType, or KeyStrokes the HeadMouse can completely replace the functions of a conventional keyboard. On-screen keyboards provide an image of the keys on the computer display, with key selection made by positioning the mouse pointer over a key. The actual key press is implemented by dwelling over that key for a set period of time or by using an adaptive switch. A Remote Switch Transmitter is available for wireless transfer of adaptive switch inputs from a wheelchair to a desktop computer.

The HeadMouse will track the user's head with the user located in any comfortable viewing position relative to the computer display. Resolution of the HeadMouse is sufficient to allow a user to control the mouse pointer down to the minimum resolution of the computer display, the picture element (pixel). This precision allows a user to perform tasks such as drawing or Computer Aided Design (CAD).

When the HeadMouse is used with an on-screen keyboard, all the standard personal computer applications are available to the user who has a disability.

VerticalMouse

Evoluent

http://www.evoluent.com/

Evoluent LLC announces the release of the EvoluentTM VerticalMouseTM optical, a major advance in mouse evolution.

The computer industry is known for its incredible pace of development. Most computer related technologies move with leaps and bounds each year. In only ten years, processor speeds have increased a hundred folds, operating systems have gone from white-on-black screens to sophisticated and colorful interfaces, digital cameras are replacing film cameras, and the Internet has revolutionized information delivery.

Despite these advances, the basic shape of the mainstream computer mice has remained essentially unchanged for almost two decades. A conventional mouse has a horizontal surface that supports the hand in a horizontal position parallel to the desk. A common misconception that such a position is natural. This is perhaps because the hand tends to rest flat on a table due to its own weight. However, the forearm is actually twisted almost 90 degrees out of neutral when in such a position.

In recent years, some mice are made with slightly angled surfaces that support the hand in a less twisted position. Although they are better than horizontal mice, the slanted mice do not solve the problem because their angles are too low to be fully effective.

In response to the need for improvement, Evoluent LLC is releasing the new EvoluentTM VerticalMouseTM optical. It is the first major ergonomic advance in mouse evolution in many years.

Patented shape eliminates arm twisting

The EvoluentTM VerticalMouseTM optical has an upright surface that supports the hand and forearm in a neutral, relaxed handshake position. It eliminates the forearm twisting required by ordinary mice to greatly improve comfort, especially for prolonged use, such as Web browsing and photo editing. It supports the fingers in extended positions to allow small movements to be made by moving the fingers, without moving the entire arm. It also supports the thumb for added comfort.

Stable when pressing buttons

The EvoluentTM VerticalMouseTM optical remains steady when the user presses the buttons because the thumb naturally opposes the fingers with its own movement.

Five programmable buttons

The EvoluentTM VerticalMouseTM optical has five buttons can be individually programmed to perform a variety of functions for speeding up common tasks with a single touch.

Optical sensor

The optical sensor accurately tracks the movement of the mouse without a ball for improved reliability.

The new EvoluentTM VerticalMouseTM optical offers a new level of comfort and control unmatched by other mice.

Windows® XP, 2000, Me, or 98;
