ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY DISPLAY Project START has two display units that are available at no charge for use at conventions, training sessions, schools, etc. The unit itself has information on a three-part folding display board. The focus of the display is essentially the focus of Project START: all ages, all disabilities, in all parts of the state of Mississippi. There is a statement describing the purpose of Project START which is:" to ensure the provision of appropriate Assistive Technology (AT) for Mississippians with disabilities by increasing the awareness of and access to AT and by helping service systems to become more consumer responsive so that all Mississippians with disabilities will receive appropriate AT services and devices." The display also contains information on the services we provide including: Information, Referrals, Trainings, Sub-grants and the Equipment Loan Program. Various descriptions and pictures help viewers to understand Assistive Technology. The Project START display is usually exhibited at all the major conferences relating to persons with disabilities in the state. We have also displayed at Job Fairs, AARP workshops, staff and student in-service trainings at schools all over the state. The display table is covered with a wide variety of brochures on agencies, advocacy groups, and services for persons with disabilities. There are also informational booklets with descriptions of assistive technology and catalogs from vendors that contain products that are appropriate for someone with disabilities. These types of equipment range from low tech to high tech. Persons who are interested in any of these brochures, fact sheets, catalogs, or any of the literature at the display are free to take these items. The Project START display also has a sign up sheet for persons interested in upcoming events or trainings. Entering information on this sheet will allow the person to receive mailings that will be of interest to them.
