Monitors
Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) monitors are the current standard. A monitor size (eg. 19" monitor) indicates the diagonal viewing area.
Flat Panels, LCD or TFT, are the latest development. They have a reduced foot print, run cooler, and do not present disposal issues.

Printers
InkJet Printers are the least expensive. Ink is heated and the bubble is forced through a jet and is sprayed onto the paper. In the long run, these printers have a high cost of ownership due to the expense of buying new ink cartridges often.
Laser Printers are more expensive to purchase. However, the TCO (total cost of ownership) is lowered because toner cartridges last longer. The quality of print is generally much better.
