Windows Accessibility Features

 

 

Using the Windows Accessibility Wizard

Opens the Accessibility Wizard

 

the Welcome Page is shown to the right

 

hit Enter or click on the Next button to continue


the next screen is the Accessibility Wizard dialog box called

Text Size

Up/down arrows will help you choose the option you desire

The options are:

use the normal size text

use large window titles and menus

use Magnifier and large titles and menus

choose an option and then hit Enter or the Next button

the next screen is the Accessibility Wizard dialog box called

Display Settings

Click on the box to put an arrow in the chosen option or to remove the arrow to deselect an option

The options are:

Font Size

Screen Resolution

Magnifier

Personalized Menus

After selecting the options you want, hit Enter or the Next button

the next screen is the Accessibility Wizard dialog box called

Wizard Options

Click on the box to put an arrow in the chosen option or to remove the arrow to deselect an option

The options are:

Blind Settings

Deaf Setting

Keyboard/Mouse Settings

Administrative Options

After selecting the options you want, hit Enter or the Next button

 

 

If you choose the blind and low vision options you then go to these screens

Scroll Bar and Window Border Size

chose style by clicking on it with the mouse or using the left/right arrows on the keyboard

 

after selection hit Enter or the Next button

Icon Size

chose style by clicking on it with the mouse or using the left/right arrows on the keyboard

 

after selection hit Enter or the Next button

Display Color Settings

chose scheme by clicking on it with the mouse or using the left/right arrows on the keyboard

the Preview gives you an indication of the kind of contrast that each scheme provides

 

after selection hit the Next button

Mouse Cursor

chose scheme by clicking on it with the mouse or using the up/down and left/right arrows on the keyboard

 

 

after selection hit Enter or the Next button

after making all the choices in Blind and Low Vision section you have the opportunity to save these settings

 

to do so, hit the Save Settings button, give these settings a name

 

 

If you choose the deaf and hard of hearing options you then go to these screens

SoundSentry allows windows to provide visual warnings in place of sounds

 

To activate this feature, use the mouse or an arrow key to select the Yes radio button and then hit Enter or the Next Button

Show Sounds

allows windows to provide visual warnings in place of sounds

 

Some programs will display captions for speech and sound

These are not always available in all programs

To activate this feature, use the mouse or an arrow key to select the Yes radio button and then hit Enter or the Next Button

after making all the choices in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing section you have the opportunity to save these settings

 

to do so, hit the Save Settings button, give these settings a name

If you choose the keyboard options you then go to these screens

StickyKeys allows the user to press key combinations one key at a time

 

To activate this feature, use the mouse or an arrow key to select the Yes radio button and then hit Enter or the Next Button

BounceKeys tells Windows to ignore repeated keystrokes

 

To activate this feature, use the mouse or an arrow key to select the Yes radio button and then hit Enter or the Next Button

 

if you select this option you get a second BounceKeys screen that allows you to set the BounceKeys Settings

options include a slidebar that sets rate of keystrokes to ignore

and lets you select an option to give auditory feedback when Windows accepts a keystroke

ToggleKeys provide auditory feedback when you press

Caps Lock

Num Lock

Scroll Lock

this helps you avoid errors

Extra Keyboard Help

allows ToolTips and other instructions to be displayed when these tips are available

MouseKeys

allows user to use the keyboard instead of the mouse to move the mouse pointer

 

To activate this feature, use the mouse or an arrow key to select the Yes radio button and then hit Enter or the Next Button

Mouse Cursor

allows user to use select the size and color of the mouse cursor

 

To activate this feature, use the mouse or an arrow key to select the Mouse Cursor desired and then hit Enter or the Next Button

Mouse Button Settings

allows user to configure the mouse to work right-handed or left-handed

 

To activate this feature, use the mouse or an arrow key to select the appropriate radio button and then hit Enter or the Next Button

Mouse Speed

allows user to configure the mouse pointer speed by moving the sliding bar

 

To activate this feature, use slider bar to place the setting as desired and then hit Enter or the Next Button

after making all the choices in the Keyboard and Mouse section you have the opportunity to save these settings

 

to do so, hit the Save Settings button, give these settings a name

The final stage of the Accessibility Wizard

The box in the middle will list all of the changes that were made

 

There is a hyperlink to the Microsoft Accessibility and Disabilities Web Site

To Finish the Wizard hit the Finish button
